Going to take another run at the whole video game deals thing. It's going to be a database that anyone can add deals to that allows sorting based on several different deal-related fields, such as retailer, systems the deal is applicable to based on availability, and some others. This is going to be displayed in a way that's much better than it would be on a forum which is what we used to be using (along with other large sites that do similar things. That's probably scaled to your level, so the damage it does won't be the same to other people depending on the level they find it at.

Good method, but also pretty dangerous. If you have Shadowmere I prefer just standing at point black and lobbing arrows into her as fast as possible. You can also retrieve your arrows and heal her while you're going about it.

It will just be the same as the disc version. I don't really know what the "I got a follower after downloading this" refers to unless they were talking about Skyrim DLC, which you will be able to use with or without the disc anyway. Some people claim having the game installed on the hard drive decreases loading times when compared to loading the game from the disc (for some games, not all).

Anyone that has something listed under the "Merchant" category will still be a shop keeper when they marry and move in with you. Whether any of them are better than Lydia is debatable since it really depends what you're looking for in combat style, merchant type, etc.

She could have been killed. Try getting a different follower/companion and see if it tells you whether or not you still have one (Lydia). If you do, she's probably stuck somewhere (this can actually be bad since you might not even be able to get another follower). If you get no message and the new person joins you she's probably dead. If it says something like "Lydia went back to Breezehome" she should be awaiting you there after you send the new follower away.
