He was, until very recently, leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada, which is the Official Opposition.
The NDP is a social-democratic party. Here's a list of some of its principles and policies, taken from Wikipedia.

It's really rare to see a left-wing politician who looks like he can actually do something; Jack Layton was one of them.

Indeed. He was one of the rare few honest politicians. He's the only one in Canada who could achieve such great things.

I'm actually anti-government, but that's not something I'm willing to stand on voting/political wise. I consider myself a Tea Party Republican and also liberal. Sorry, I'm weird. No doubt Obama's a nice guy, but he's a pussy. As are most democrats.

Heard the news last night, saw the final quote, became saddened but more concerned for how you'd handle this, Aliath. All this time I had expected Hitchens to devastate you by dying sooner than anyone else. Read my introduction, I'm back and I wish to make amends with you again. I finally realized what you finally realized a bit earlier than I did.

The problem with Obama is that he refuses to lead his own damn party. No doubt Obama's a nice guy, but he's a pussy. As are most democrats.
