Saw a really cool video of Todd Howard, Executive Produce of Bethesda, giving a speech at DICE a good amount of months ago. In it, he explains why people create game and why do they play them, referencing his own work and generally being a funny and interesting guy all around. If you are going to TL;DW it, at least jump to 21:30, where he shows Bethesda Game Jam, where he allowed everybody to do whatever they wanted to for a week and see Skyrim features that may, didn't, and have made it in the final installment/DLC.

What made it into the game other than the ranged kill-cams, house building, and mounted combat? If they already had them created I don't know why the other good ones, such as the water texture, didn't make it.

Well vampire lords, the ability to adopt kids, and kinect shouts is the only things I noticed. Yeah, a lot of these things are very cool and really should of been thrown in there, but the game was complete at this time. I know that's no excuse, but they have the option to add these as patches and DLC.But yeah, we could of used the water current, the darker dungeons, the more sophisticated dungeon structures, and the ability to customize your follower more. Oh, and the giant mudcrab. Fuck yeah.
