staff of magnus- winterhold

ok, so i have received the staff of magnus. As i get to winterhold i go inside the building to find the lady ( cant exactly read the characters name) feeding off this blue orb thing. Then, she opens it open and and the orb thing is shooting fire killing me instantly. i have great health and im wearing the dragon priest mask so my magicika comes back 2x faster. i still dont know what to do?

I'll start by saying the "girl" is actually a guy. :PIs Ancano, the high elf, shooting fire at you or is it the orb? The orb shouldn't be attacking you as it has no arms. Casting fire is hard if you don't have arms. If Ancano keeps killing you, then I have some ideas to help you.
