Question

Guest Ross Ashcroft

Hey guysTotally new to this site so bare with me!I have completed the loud and clear quest for the thrives guild, and it should now lead me straight onto the quest - dampened spirits. However it hasn't. I have looked on the Internet and there's alot of people saying its a bug within the game. Apparently when speaking to byrnjolf if you don't select the right question if cancels out the quest?!?!Does anyone know if there's a way to sort this? (Unfortuantly I have played approx 25 hours game time since completing this so I cant go back)Or if there is a patch to fix it?Any help would be appreciated!

Yeah, Brynjolf should tell you to talk to Maven Blackbriar which keeps the quest moving forward. I believe that was one of the quests fixed in the 1.04 patch. If your game isn't updated, download and install the patch, and then let your game run for ~15-20 mins. The quest should start automatically (or you may have to initiate dialogue again, I'm not positive as I didn't have the issue personally).

Per the wiki:

To complete Thieves guild quest "Loud And Clear", you must talk to Brynjolf. Unfortunately, Brynjolf does not assign "Dampened Spirits" despite providing the necessary dialogue and task. Speaking to Maven as Brynjolf asks will not trigger any new dialogue on her part, and there is no known fix to this bug, so save before talking to Brynjolf, then try talking to him, and if it doesn't work load again and complete other quests until Bethesda fixes this bug. Patch 1.4 fixes this bug on PS3. If your quest is bugged, download the patch and let it run for 20 minutes. The quest will automatically start.

Welcome to the site by the way. :) Let us know whether or not this resolves your issue. If not, we'll try to help you out by trying some alternative method.

If I ever become a porn star, I'm totally using the name "Ross Ashcroft". Thank you in advance. A compliment for a cool name. And I'm fairly certain all you have to do is connect to Xbox Live or the Playstation equivalent of Xbox Live. I don't/can't play online so I'm not entirely certain.

I am having the same problem -- I've been connected to Xbox Live etc, but the "Dampened Spirits" quest still does not start...this was supposed to be patched? Very frustrating to be unable to continue the Thieves Guild quest line.

Well basically I cannot continue with the Thieves Guild questline due to this bug, and I can't wait for a patch either because Bethesda thinks it has alread been fixed...

Those of you with PC's can use the console commands to skip the quest. If you're using a console and the patch still has not fixed the issue, there may be a different cause than the one the patch was supposed to fix. The way the patch release was worded leads me to believe that the quest may only be fixed in future play-throughs - and not retroactively start it - for many people.

[*]If the player breaks into Honningbrew Meadery before receiving this quest, it will not become available (even after installing the 1.4 patch) Loud and Clear.

[*]Posted Image If you cannot obtain the quest, you can can skip it using the console with completequest TG03, followed by setstage TG04 1. This allows you to continue progression in the Thieves Guild.

[*]After completing the quest Loud and Clear, if the player does not ask Brynjolf why Maven Black-Briar is requesting a meeting, the quest will not become available. Also Brynjolf will not speak to the player, saying only that he has "important tasks to be doing".

[*]This bug is fixed by the Official Skyrim Patch (1.4). (allegedly, this is what I referenced earlier).

[*]Posted Image If you cannot obtain the quest, you can can skip it using the console with completequest TG03, followed by setstage TG04 1. This allows you to continue progression in the Thieves Guild.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Until someone reports back here with a fix or a patch success story there's not much else to recommend besides trying the most recent patches or loading from a previous save and hoping for the best.

I made the mistake of not following the correct dialogue path. Now I cannot advance the Thieves guild quests, I was patched up to date at the time. I've tried deleting the patch data and re-downloading it, and then waiting the recommended 15-20minutes for the quest to appear. It has not appeared. Not sure what to try next, I just wanted to confirm that this method does not fix the issue.

Damn. . . Everyone's having the same problem. . . Though, I have found a way to get past this bug (for now, at least) for Xbox 360 users. You must have two types of save devices installed/available on the consol. One would be for your primary profile, and the other would be a back-up that will hoprfully be free of the bug. You could keep your good Skyrim data, while starting fresh and bug-free with the other. Though, I've come across a second bug with my secondary profile. . . But, it is one that can be worked around. Sorry if you're a PlayStation user. . . I'll look into an alternate sollution for that consol, too. Hope I was of assistance :)
