  1. Copy and paste doesn't create a shortcut, it creates a copy - that is, it should still be there if you pasted it before the original was deleted. Cut and paste just allows pasting after the file has been cut.

It's not a terribly difficult job to install, but you'd want to watch a video on how to because you need to hook up a power cable to it too. But there are plenty of videos showing that on YouTube anyway.

  2. Thank you, Fergal. I've been a lil cranky lately. I know it's a support forum, but i don't really have a life beyond this chair... (sulk-sulk) However, and as you suggested and as i found out on the web, i did actually remove my steamapps from c:\ program files (x86) before uninstalling steam, but the only problem is that i didn't really know where to put them.... so i just stuck them in my Documents folder instead of onto an external hard-rive. I'm a dumbass!  Fortunately it wasn't too much an issue re-installing Skyrim; i have it on a disc so i didn't have to pay a shitload of credit on my prepaid rip-off account. The other fortunate thing is that i didn't lose all my saves; but i just kinda took a chance on that one...

My bad, but thanks again for replying. I appreciate it. By the way, I'm going to be buying one of those graphic cards you mentioned in my earlier post about videoing game-play with that shadow-thingy. I'm hoping it will be as easy as just plugging it into a slot in the front of my tower....  Speaking of sticking things in slots, I'm pretty certain I'm gonna have to get laid soon ;)

And one more thing, I apologize if i offended anybody else with my cranky-pants posting yesterday. Please, feel free to punish me... i don't mind a little slapping back there. haha....

No worries, just wanted to put it out there!

There really is nothing wrong with throwing the Steamapps folder in your documents when re-installing Steam, because it shouldn't remove the directory if it's not in the correct place. (Or am I wrong? Did it?)

With regard to the GPU, a NVIDIA GTX 650 or higher is required, so if unsure, I'd double check if it supports Shadowplay - so that will cost you something like at least $100 I guess at the bare minimum new. Not terribly difficult to install (assuming your motherboard is new enough to support PCI-express slots - not (just) PCI), but it would be inside the tower. Good luck with both of your slots. ;)

  3. Well thanks for the feedback. appreciated. always good to know we've got friends online right?

So, seeing I don't know what I'm doing, i decided to uninstall/re-install steam. It fixed the issue, at least for now, but i did lose the game in the process, not to mention all my mods, and so i had to download everything all over again. But like i said, thank you, all thirteen of my posts viewers were a tone of help. really.

I know, but I didn't really have the time to wait for whenever someone decided to get around to it....

You really have to have patience with these things - This is a community forum, not customer service. I'm sure of those thirteen post viewers, had they known how to solve the issue, help would have been extended, but this doesn't appear to be a common issue - I sure has hell don't know how to fix it (also haven't seen it until now).

Anyway. If you want to keep your games when re-installing Steam, back-up your Steamapps folder (or delete everything besides it, I guess). That folder is usually found at C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps (or Program Files (x86)). Just for future reference really; I'm not sure if it would still have solved your problem if you hadn't re-installed Skyrim in the process.

  4. If you really want mechanical, and silent - Then just find a keyboard available in Cherry MX Browns or something for the keyswitch. Stay away from blues. You can look up the different keyswitches, but I'd just get brown and then unless you can master not "bottoming" out your key press, you can stick O-rings underneath the keys, but they can expensive enough I believe. If you want to fit within budget, I'd recommend something from Cooler Master or Corsair - the keyboard only companies are rather expensive.

£100-150 is should be fine. Its the mechanical keyboard that will drive that up. Mice aren't overly expensive for the most part. For palm grip, I think the obvious choice is the Razer Deathadder (the only thing Razer have done right), or, if you'd like a Logitech gaming mouse, because the Deathadder seems to be stuck at a high price at least on Amazon.

For your monitor, you will probably want a 24", seems to be the sweet spot, 1080p, probably TN panel (which is almost all of them). That would be reasonably cheap. If you have cash to spend you can always look into 1440p with IPS (27") or a gaming monitor with say 120HZ refresh rate (although I deem that a poor choice unless you are a professional gamer). If you go with the 24", I'd personally just find the cheapest one from a reliable brand name that seems to have a decent reviews.

  5. Need a budget for them.

Keyboard can really be any ol' cheap thing, unless you want mechanical, lol. Mouse depends on the person, but if you determine your mouse grip (claw, palm, fingertip) and a budget I can give you a few recommendations.

  6. Oh er, I phrased that wrong. What I meant was edition or whatever. That seems to be the standard base level edition, which isn't on amazon.co.uk from what I can see.

What I meant was Dual-X vs Vapor-X vs Toxic, but that probably isn't relevant if it wasn't mentioned in the OP.

  7. ^ I wish we had those god damn prices in Europe... Just a quick check from amazon.co.uk, I'd be paying an extra $20 on just the 8350. :/ And much worse on even the cheapest available Sapphire 280x.

Just out of curiousity, which Sapphire card was it, they have a couple of models with a pretty hefty price gap.

  8. Yeah, that is a very solid build. Overall it is very good bang for the buck (at least where I'm from - America seems to be much cheaper, not sure about how it is in general up there :P ). Obviously if you choose Windows the price will shoot up a bit because it is fairly expensive.

Windows 7 vs Windows 8 (64 bit obviously, home premium is fine unless you want to add over 16gb of ram) is your personal preference really, just do a bit of research and see which fits you better, as far as I know, Windows 8 has come a long way but I'm not really up to date with it. You could go with Linux if you are willing to learn, your games will be limited, but there are more and more games going to Linux particularly because of Valve and Steam OS. As far as I see it, Linux is free, so you aren't investing anything really, maybe time. Just grab Ubuntu to get started, if you really want the extra games, buy a copy of Windows. Simple as.

Really I'm not entirely up to date with the prices of these builds because I've lost touch with what's going up and down, but to me it seems like a good deal. If you want a comparison, you can build the same PC on http://pcpartpicker.com/ and see from there, but really prices in your area is the important factor here.

  9. I won't judge you on your financial means, but if I managed to pay a monthly sub fee for my Ultima Online account on my teenage burger flipping wage in 1999 then I think you're just being a whiny defeatist.  Get a job and/or assess your prioritities as the game is truly worth it.

Not all people can find it easy to get a job. Depends on where you are from. I'm sure it's fine where you live, but say, where I live, in Ireland, you would be lucky to get a job flipping burgers without a degree of some sorts. There is a reason everyone is leaving the country. Perhaps where Alien lives doesn't suffer this problem, then fair enough, but I'm sure people have more important means to be paying for rather than a subscription. It shouldn't be the priority.

But, yes, it's a great possibility that the game will go F2P anyway. The real question is if you are planning on playing this game seriously hardcore or casual - to the point where it becomes a question of if you need to get the subscription every month.

  10. I have this problem between my monitors as they are almost the same model, but one is LED and the other two are LCD. And those LCDs have a noticable yellow tint, but I don't ever care or notice it much anymore, and at night, the different seems to disappear with f.lux anyway.

You are as well return it, but as you said, the problem could persist as far as the manufacture dates are concerned.

In my experience, it's only noticeable when at Google and such, as you are in that image. If it is bothering you a lot, return it, otherwise, live with it. Your choice.

  11. Prices in Europe suck, if I'm honest.

If newegg shipped to Europe at the same cost with the same shipping fees, I would have a system that is considerably more powerful. I actually met my budget (well a tiny bit over), but since then additions have brought that up.

  12. Has anyone used mechanical keyboards with the Cherry MX style keys?

They are going to be by far the most common. And of those cherry keys, 4 are common. Others like the clears and greens aren't as common.

Blue - Tactile, clicky/loud. Best for typing, but not if you type during the night a lot or in an office where you annoy others.

Browns - Tactile, non-clicky. Out of these 4, best mix of gaming and typing. Feels great, not too loud.

Reds - Linear/non-tactile, non-clicky, really sensitive. Best for gaming, but ahh, I wouldn't personally ever go near them unless I was a professional gamer or something.

Blacks - Same as reds, but require a lot more force. Meh, these have their fans, but not an awful lot.

I have browns, love them. Of course they are almost as loud as blues if you bottom out your keys, but otherwise, pretty quiet and o-rings can solve noise problems. :P
