Is this something that just suddenly happened, or has Skryim never been run on this PC? In terms of system requirements, you have the minimum RAM and a CPU that is below the minimum requirements. What graphics card do you have? I'd check out this website and report back with its findings.

That error is probably a configuration issue with Skyrim or with DirectX. I'll troubleshoot it but if the laptop won't run the game anyways it might be for naught.

It worked on this computer until my cat knocked it over and had to be taken to the shop for repairs. My grandmother took it to a friend she'd been relying on for years but when I got it back, it couldn't run anything I used to have on it like Skyrim, NeverWinter Nights 2, or Facebook apps. It's like the laptop got a downgrade and I don't know what to do for it. I downloaded the app your website recommended to detect compatibility and these were the results:

Those windows scores aren't that helpful because they can be drastically altered if things aren't configured correctly. On the first image of your last post, do you see the link on the bottom right that says "View and print detailed performance and system information"? Can you take a picture of the table that's in that link instead?

It looks to me like your repair-guy reset the computer and all of the drivers got removed. Drivers are essentially the software that allows the computer to utilize whatever hardware components it has. If there is something wrong with your graphics card driver then your computer won't be able to use the card, and you'll get terrible performance with anything that relies on it (e.g. all video games).

You should go to your laptop manufacturer's (HP, Dell, Asus, etc.) website, select your laptop, and download and reinstall of the drivers for it. The driver for the graphics card is of particular importance. You can probably find this information easily by googling something like...

*manufacturer* *laptop model* drivers

You could also try to find out what was done to the computer during the repair. If the graphics card was damaged and removed, then drivers aren't the problem.

I've tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it but it doesn't seem to work, and I got the product from the Toshiba website too :( Would I be better off just getting a new laptop? I hate to, because they're so expensive now, but I don't want to keep throwing money into repairs if this thing is pretty much on the hopeless trail.

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4656 with Windows Vista.

Would upgrading to Windows 10 have any effect on performance? I haven't but I'm curious if there is a way to upgrade your laptop without having to pay a bunch of products you have to pay monthly fees to.

Here was the product list their website gave me, it seems to have changed some:

I'm pretty surprised that Skyrim was ever able to run on a laptop that old. Something I read said it was released in 2007? Most laptops have pretty low-end components that can only be expected to last a few years. You definitely shouldn't put any more money into a laptop that's approaching 9 years old.

If your primary objective is gaming, you also shouldn't buy another laptop. You will be able to get a desktop that performs much, much better for even less money. There are plenty of online communities that will help you pick something out if you post your budget and requirements.

Upgrading to Windows 10 won't improve your ability to run any of these games at all. It might make your laptop a bit more usable because Windows 10 is more polished than Vista, though.

I'm confused what you're referencing by the "upgrade laptop by paying monthly fees for products" part. Your laptop won't improve by paying fees for anything you can download and install. It's really just outdated hardware at this point.

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm162/Zethorra/3_zpsoxll4ast.png I sorted out the list and downloaded, installed the top 4 programs. Nothing has seemed to improve though :(

None of the top 4 drivers would have any effect. The one you really have to try is the "nVidia Display Driver for Windows Vista." If that doesn't work, you're probably just going to have to get a new computer.
