Missing in action

Hey there, can someone please help with my problem. I've talked to farlia outside in whiterun and she ordered me to her house to speak about her lost son in private. When I arrived to talk to her she never said anything about the mission. I tried talking to her son buy still nothing happens.

Avulstein Gray-Mane should have appeared in the house and told you his story to set you on the next objective. I haven't really heard of any bug causing that to not happen, so your best bet may just be to reload a recent save and try it again. Sometimes there are conflicts if you enter the houses at night with quests, because the game recognizes it as trespassing even though NPCs don't say anything.
