  1. PS3 Dawnguard Now Available

As of Tuesday, February 26th, Dawnguard is available to PS3 users in North America. Just like the first two DLCs - Dragonborn and Hearthfire - Dawnguard is on sale for 50% off ($9.99) during it's first week of availability. There's not going to be a better time to buy if you're planning on it!

The following have also been released today...

    • French versions of Dragonborn, Hearthfire, and Dawnguard released in Canada
    • Spanish versions of Dragonborn, Hearthfire, and Dawnguard released in Latin American markets.
Tomorrow afternoon, the French, Italian, German, and Spanish markets will get all of the DLC (available in all supported languages).

  2. PS3 and PC Skyrim DLC Arriving February

Following a long and rowdy wait, PS3 and PC users were finally treated to a statement in December that pegged the release date of the missing Skyrim DLC in "early 2013." Bethesda has now released a follow-up statement that provides more details on the expected arrival date of February.

PC: On Tuesday, February 5th, Dragonborn will be available on Steam, including the English, French, Italian, Spanish and German versions of the content.

PlayStation 3: Dragonborn will be the first add-on arriving on PSN in February. Hearthfire will release next, followed by Dawnguard, and all three should be out in February. The 1.8 update will also release, just prior to Dragonborn. We’ll keep you posted as release dates get finalized both on our end and with Sony for each and its various languages. Last but not least, each one will be 50% off during their launch week on PSN.

Although the PS3 is still without a solid release date, Bethesda is acknowledging its mistakes by offering the DLC for 50% off during its first week. A not so subtle ploy to win over the disgruntled among us, maybe, but it is a positive first step in the right direction.

Following the fiasco that has seen over 7 months of delays, broken promises, and pessimistic twitter statements, I personally vowed to never purchase the DLC when (or if) it ever released on my PS3. However, the launch discount is tempting - how often do you see reduced prices on Bethesda DLC? Oblivion's Shivering Isles, widely considered the gold standard, can still be found on PSN for $30. If you ever plan on purchasing this content, the launch week would appear to be the time.

  3. Dawnguard May Not Arrive on PS3

Bethesda has released some new information concerning PS3's Dawnguard status, and it's not exactly looking good for PS3 players. Their statement...

It's been a few weeks, and we wanted to make sure everyone knows where we're at with Dawnguard. Skyrim is a massive and dynamic game that requires a lot of resources, and things get much more complex when you're talking about sizable content like Dawnguard. We have tried a number of things, but none of them solve the issue enough to make Dawnguard good for everyone. The PS3 is a powerful system, and we're working hard to deliver the content you guys want. Dawnguard is obviously not the only DLC we’ve been working on either, so the issues of adding content get even more complicated. This is not a problem we’re positive we can solve, but we are working together with Sony to try to bring you this content.

We wish we had a more definitive answer right now. We understand the frustration when the same content is not available on all platforms. When we have an update, we will certainly let you know. We deeply appreciate all the time and support you have given us, and we’ll keep doing our best to return that.

The announcement sheds some light on the train wreck that has been the PS3-Dawnguard saga.

  4. Bethesda Comments on PS3 Dawnguard

Although Skyrim's first DLC, Dawnguard, hit the Xbox 360 in June and the PC in early August, PS3 users are still without even a tentative release date. As the weeks have worn on, PS3 gamers have become increasingly disgruntled with the poor communication and handling of the situation by Bethesda (Skyrim's developer).

Following the announcement that Hearthfire will be released on the 360 September 4th, tempers flared as PS3 users flocked to leave angry remarks regarding the situation on Bethesda's blog and forums. Following the quickly increasing amount of consumer backlash, Peter Hines of Bethesda released a statement via twitter:

We are working on multiple projects, even beyond those two things [Dawnguard/Hearthfire]. We're disappointed too, but we're keeping at it. I continue to do my best to get info and something to update folks with. When I get something I can share, I will.

Microsoft's exclusivity agreement with Bethesda guarantees a one-month early-release on the 360 for Skyrim's first two DLC packs. Dawnguard's exclusivity ended July 26th, and Hearthfire's will end October 4th. Should more DLC be released, Bethesda will be legally able (though not obligated) to release it concurrently on all systems.
